Project Unicorn is the internal name for the plan to replace approximately 1,000 employees with AI infrastructure — GPUs and dismissal — and convert remaining staff to contractors. The plan exists behind the cost reviews and acquisition talks that drive Redundant. It is not Rob Coleman's plan, but it is built from his data.
Project Unicorn is the trilogy's clearest example of forced adoption: the cost data is neutral, the AI infrastructure is real, but the decision to replace people with machines is presented as inevitable — a consequence of the numbers, not a choice made by people who could have chosen differently.
How the term evolves
Redundant: The code name for the layoff plan. The spreadsheet is the artifact. The leak is the crisis.
Contingent: Project Unicorn is referenced as the precedent — the reason the AISI Act requires human oversight before AI can be deployed in ways that affect employment.
