Who We Are
This site is operated by Discursive, the publisher of The Condition Set trilogy by Tim O'Brien. Our contact email is support@discursive.com.
What Data We Collect
When you purchase a book or audiobook from our store, we collect:
- Order information — your email address, the items purchased, and the Stripe checkout session ID.
- Payment information — processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number.
We do not collect browsing accounts, require user registration, or use tracking cookies beyond standard web analytics.
Digital Download Watermarking
To protect against unauthorized redistribution, all digital downloads (EPUBs and audiobooks) are individually marked at the time of purchase using technology that associates each file with the specific order. This allows us to trace a file back to its original purchase if it is found shared publicly.
This marking exists solely to deter and investigate unauthorized sharing. It does not affect playback or reading quality. We do not use this data for any purpose other than investigating redistribution.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand site traffic and referral sources. This uses first-party cookies and collects anonymized data such as page views, referral sources, and general location (country/city level). We do not link analytics data to individual purchases or identities.
We use your email address only to deliver purchase confirmations and download links. We do not send marketing emails, newsletters, or promotional material unless you separately opt in. We do not sell or share your email address with third parties.
Data Storage
Order records and watermarked download files are stored on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) servers in the United States. Download links expire after 72 hours; the underlying files are retained for order verification and support purposes. You may request deletion of your order data by contacting support@discursive.com.
Third-Party Services
- Stripe — payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Google Cloud Platform — file storage and application hosting. Subject to Google's Privacy Notice.
- Google Analytics — site traffic analysis. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing support@discursive.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
