Calder Voss is the richest man in Canada and the owner of Boreal Dynamics, a data center and AI infrastructure conglomerate. He is the trilogy's primary antagonist — not a saboteur like Brett Cawley, but a legitimate businessman whose vision for the future does not include human oversight.
Voss calls UBI "the innovation tax" and refers to its recipients as "the denominator" — a slip that reveals how he views the people his systems serve. He does not want to destroy AISIO; he wants to make it unnecessary by making oversight optional, then default, then mandatory to remove. He is the political face of the accelerationist movement — the argument that AI works fine and the humans are the bottleneck.
How the term evolves
