Essential
AISIO
AI Systems Integrity Office. Certifies, audits, and oversees automated decision systems on critical infrastructure. By Essential, Rob Coleman is its Chief Commissioner.
The AI Systems Integrity Office (AISIO) is the regulatory body that certifies, audits, and oversees automated decision systems on critical infrastructure. By Essential, Rob Coleman is its Chief Commissioner — the same Rob Coleman who, in Redundant, was a FinOps director fighting cost reviews.
AISIO is the institutional answer to the trilogy's central question: who watches the systems we can't turn off? It is modeled on the FAA or the NRC — a regulator with the authority to stop a system from operating if it cannot be certified as safe.
How the term evolves
Contingent: Mentioned as a body that exists but is not yet fully operational. The AISI Act of 2029 creates the legal framework.
Essential: AISIO is the setting. Rob runs it. The political thriller is about whether AISIO can survive a sunset clause (Section 41), a political opponent (Gord Pryce), and an accelerationist movement (Marcus Vey) that wants to remove human oversight from AI systems entirely.
